What is a diamond certification?
Diamonds can be purchased with or without certification. A certified diamond means that a particular stone went through rigorous analyzation by a professional gemologist. The gemologist will grade the stone by shape, cut, color, clarity, weight, polish, symmetry and fluorescence. From this point, the stone will be given a “birth certificate” and sent on its way.
Is it true that Tungsten bands cannot be cut off in case of an emergency?
This is true. But when tungsten is put under enough consistent pressure, it will crack.
What is the hardest stone available on the market today?
A diamond is the hardest stone available today. On the Mohs scale of mineral hardness graded from 1—10, a diamond ranks 10.
What is more important when purchasing a diamond — color or clarity?
In my professional opinion, color is more important than clarity. The most prominent features you see when looking at a diamond are color, cut and size. Most of the time you won’t be able to see imperfections unless you use a jewelers loupe or a microscope.
Are there alternative stones available for engagement rings other than diamonds?
You can use any type of stone for an engagement ring but the most popular stone other than a diamond is a sapphire because of its bright brilliance and hardness.
What is a push present?
A push present is a gift a man gives his wife before or after giving birth to their child. Women love this!
What ring goes on first, the engagement ring or the wedding band?
Traditionally, the wedding band goes on the finger before the engagement ring. The wedding band signifies your nuptials and should be worn closer to your heart.
If I want to keep my gift a surprise, how do I know what size to make the ring?
The best place to start is by asking family members or best friends. If you’re not able to determine the size by the time you propose or give your gift, we will make a close guess. There is no charge to you if the ring needs to be re-sized after the ring has been given (first ring sizing is free).
What is CAD CAM and why is it so special?
CAD CAM is a design program that essentially makes your ring absolutely perfect. All dimensions and proportions are ideal.
How should I care for my jewelry?
I recommend that you bring your jewelry in every six months for a free check up and polishing. In between the six-month check-ups you can clean your jewelry with a solution that is available at my studio.
Will T. Anthony Jewelers create a mounting for a diamond I already own?
